Why was the Pacific Fisheries Resource Conservation Council created?
The creation of the PFRCC as an advisory Council on salmon conservation was one of the recommendations of the 1996 Fraser River Sockeye Enquiry. It subsequently came into being as part of a Canada-BC Memorandum of Understanding on Fisheries in 1998.
